This is a question that many families are having to find the answer to right now, with the school year starting just weeks away.

This is a hard time for many students, children, and teachers. Some never got to have their graduation, their prom, the last big game of the year(or the first). Some parents are saddened because their kid may miss their kindergarten year. What a big step to be able to make new friends and maybe ride the bus for the first time.

All of this has been changed and it is sometimes hard to make a mental decision when your emotions and wants for your child are very apparent.
Here are some of the questions that made our list when we were going through the options.
What will be the mandatory social distancing rules throughout the school?
What will the curriculum look like?
How many teachers will be available?
Will there still be gym, recess, cafeteria time?
Will there still be electives?
How many kids will be in a class room?
How will the bus ride be?
How involved will parents be in online classes?
Will there be online tutors?
How strong will Covid be returning?
Will my child be able to talk to their friends and do group activity?
How will this affect my kid socially?
How will this affect my kid emotionally?
Will they be able to finish classes and projects at home?
Is there free online school?
Are there actual books or is everything online?
Is there an actual virtual teacher to check in with?
How many hours a day will online classes take?
Am I risking my child and my families health by sending them to school?
Will one of us parents have to quite our job to ensure safety in our families health?
Can we make it financially?
I'm sure there are even more questions that are rattling through your brain. After all this is not a decision that most parents ever thought they would ever be making.

Some easy steps that might help:
~Weigh out the pros and cons of home school vs public/private school
~Make a list of questions and find the answers in your area.
~Every school district has it's own answers; but keep in mind that this is new to them as well. Be respectful and understanding to teaching staff .
~Search for and do your research on the online homeschooling community.
Reach out to other parents in your district, maybe even your child's friends' parents. Everyone is going to have the same decision to make.
When making your decision realize that everyone will have their own opinions of what you should be doing with your children. The decision is ultimately yours. What is best for your child and their overall quality of life?

Which ever way you decide... try to keep it normal for your children. Back to school shop for some new clothes, some back to school supplies, take all of those lovely first day pictures.

Is this our new way of life?
Will it last a year or two or their whole educational timeline? No one knows right now. You will make it through this! Your kids will too! Stay aware of mood changes, check in with your kids. This is hard on them too.
