Places In Michigan That Miss You Too

Being home and watching different documentaries and movies has us dreaming about travel. Something simple as a camping trip, a hotel stay with a great pool, or being able to take our family to different scenic views in Michigan.

Here are some of our favorites that hopefully everyone will be able to visit again soon!

Pictured Rocks

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore hugs the south shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It's known for the dramatic multicolored Pictured Rocks cliffs. Unusual sandstone formations like Miners Castle and Chapel Rock define the park’s headlands. Twelvemile Beach has a trail through a nearby white birch forest. Remnants of shipwrecks dot the shoreline around Au Sable Point’s 19th-century lighthouse.

Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth is a city in Michigan, known for its Bavarian-style architecture. The Frankenmuth Historical Museum highlights the area’s German roots. Michigan’s Military & Space Heroes Museum displays flight gear, Medals of Honor and military equipment. Bordered by the Cass River, Heritage Park has an event pavilion and a riverside pathway. Frankenmuth Aerial Park offers ropes courses and zip lines in a wooded area.

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island sits in Lake Huron, between Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas. Mackinac Island State Park, with trails, woods and the limestone Arch Rock formation, covers most of the island. Founded in 1780, Fort Mackinac is a walled cluster of military buildings on a coastal bluff. The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum has local works, including Native American art, maps and 19th-century photos.

The Lighthouses

With 3,200 miles of shoreline and one of the nation's most active waterways, it's no wonder that Michigan claims more lighthouses than any other state in the country. Climb Ludington's black-and-white-striped Big Sable Point lighthouse, one of Michigan's tallest, for sweeping views of Lake Michigan's golden strand.

Manistee, Michigan

  • Over 40 charter fishing boats[52] operate on Lake Michigan from Manistee County ports.

  • Fishing in the Manistee River can yield salmon and steelhead.[53]

  • Because a large portion of the county is public land, hunting is popular.

The Tahquamenon Falls

There are two different waterfalls on the Tahquamenon River. Both sets are located near Lake Superior in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The water is notably brown in color from the tannins leached from the cedar swamps which the river drains. Consequently, the upper falls are nicknamed, "The Root Beer Falls". The upper falls are more than 200 feet across and with a drop of approximately 48 feet During the late spring runoff, the river drains as much as 50,000 US gallons of water per second, making the upper falls the third most voluminous vertical waterfall east of the Mississippi River, after Niagara Falls and Cohoes Falls. Cohoes Falls is located in New York State, whereas Niagara Falls is located on the US-Canadian border, between the Province of Ontario and the State of New York. The lower falls, located four miles downstream, are a series of five smaller falls cascading around an island which can be reached by rowboat. A hiking trail runs between the falls along the riverside, and visitors often play in the lower falls during the summer heat. The falls are within Tahquamenon Falls State Park, between Newberry, Michigan, and Paradise, Michigan.

The 7 Beachtowns of Michigan are sparkling gems along a 200-mile stretch of the state's sandy Lake Michigan shores. Plan your getaway to Grand Haven,Holland,South Haven,St. Joseph,Muskegon,Silver Lake Sand Dunes and Saugatuck
